Phone/tablet as BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) HMI/SCADA in a local network
Communication over Wi-Fi between a mobile device with HMI Droid and the PLC either directly (eg Modbus/TCP or Siemens S7 Communication) or through a serial port via a port server (eg COMLI or Modbus RTU).
Connection type should be set to Wi-Fi, or Ethernet UDP when using SattBus COMLI.
HMI Droid can be used e.g. with WiFi PLCs from XLogic Sweden. (Select protocol Modbus/TCP class 1.)
Port server tested with HMI Droid and works well is MOXA NPort 5110.
Phone/tablet as BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) HMI/SCADA over mobile internet
Communication over mobile internet between a device with HMI Droid and the PLC either directly (eg Modbus/TCP or Siemens S7 Communication) or through a serial port via a port server (eg COMLI or Modbus RTU).
Connection type should be set to Wi-Fi, or Ethernet UDP when SattBus COMLI, no matter how Android device connects to the internet.
Router configured for "port forwarding".
If the IP address on the Internet is not fixed, you can use a dyn-dns service.
HMI Droid can be used e.g. with WiFi PLCs from XLogic Sweden. (Select protocol Modbus/TCP class 1.)
Port server tested with HMI Droid and works well is MOXA NPort 5110.
Using a VPN tunnel is recommended. Many routers and NAS devices have built-in VPN servers that are easy to setup.
Phone/tablet as BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) HMI/SCADA over Internet behind Carrier-grade NAT
Communication over Internet between a device with HMI Droid/Odrid HMI and a PLC behind Carrier-grade NAT either directly (eg Modbus/TCP or Siemens S7 Communication) or through a serial port via a port server (eg COMLI or Modbus RTU).
Connection type should be set to Wi-Fi, or Ethernet UDP when SattBus COMLI, no matter how Android device connects to the internet.
NOTE: Since there is no public IP-address to connect to, a service like e.g. ZeroTier is required.
HMI Droid can be used e.g. with WiFi PLCs from XLogic Sweden. (Select protocol Modbus/TCP class 1.)
Port server tested with HMI Droid and works well is MOXA NPort 5110.
Odrid HMI on a Mac in a local network
